JL FOUNDATION
Mission statement: Shift-Equal’s focus is all about providing education to children giving them a chance at having a productive life. The foundation is in memoriam to John Lukas McGarvey – who lost his battle for life at the age of 13 months from a rare syndrome never having been researched for a cure. It is our hope that the first school facility will be named ‘The John Lukas McGarvey School house’.
Since the age of about 4-5mos, John Lukas (JL) was kept in a sedated state. He required a trach to breath; he required a feeding tube to eat; he often required oxygen. He could never involuntarily raise an arm or kick a leg. He was battling a rare incurable syndrome that suggested the life span was only about 1 yr old.
Nevertheless, one day JL appeared to wake up with a larger-than-life smile. We knew he couldn’t see or hear or move any part of his body, but he had a huge smile. His mom snapped a picture. So why did he suddenly appear to have awakened? We believe he saw Angels. We believe he smiled as the Angels came to carry him away. We believe he smiled for US, to tell US, it was ok….
HE was ok….and WE’D be ok. John Lukas McGarvey was 13months old….and he is now resting in the arms of an Angel 😇
JL stands for “Just Learn – Just love someone bigger than yourself – Just live.”
